CompTIA has announced an update to its renowned CompTIA Linux+ certification to keep pace with the rapidly evolving IT landscape. The updated certification, designated as version V8, focuses on comprehensive topics such as artificial intelligence, automation, cybersecurity, and DevOps. Additionally, key elements like infrastructure as Code (IaC), scalability, and systems troubleshooting are covered, making it crucial for tech professionals aspiring to enhance their Linux skills.
Carl Bowman, senior vice president of exam services at CompTIA, highlighted the exam’s new purpose, emphasising that it builds a relevant standard. This ensures that IT professionals who secure the certification exhibit skills aligned with contemporary technologies and job roles.
With the revised certification, tech aficionados will be equipped to excel in Linux server environments. The curriculum emphasises practical skills such as configuration, management, and operation of Linux systems, encompassing security best practices, scripting, containerisation, and automation. Moreover, the CompTIA Linux+ certification lays a solid foundation for more specialised roles, including Linux systems administrator, cloud administrator, DevOps engineer, and cybersecurity analyst.
By remaining vendor-neutral, this certification is distinct from others that focus solely on specific Linux distributions. The exam content spans system management, security, and scripting, among other topics. It also includes the latest information on automation tools like Ansible and Puppet, containerisation frameworks such as Docker and Kubernetes, and cloud computing principles, all aligned with prevailing industry demands.
The credibility and acceptance of CompTIA Linux+ extend across both government and enterprise sectors. It boasts compliance with the ANAB ISO/IEC 17024 accreditation, a top-tier standard for personnel certification. Additionally, this certification syncs with the systems administrator role described in the DoD Cyber Workforce Framework and the NICE framework.
