The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust goes live with Civica’s Cito

The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust (Mid Yorks) has successfully implemented Cito, Civica’s cloud-based digital platform for integrated health and care, across all departments.

Cito, the digital healthcare platform from Civica provides real-time, single view access to critical patient information. This will improve processes, free up substantial clinical time and allow the Trust to focus further on improving patient care and outcomes.

An acute hospital spread over three main sites in Wakefield, Dewsbury and Pontefract, Mid Yorks serves a population of circa 500,000 with 8,000 employees and turnover in excess of £500m. As a user of Civica WinDIP since 2009, the transition to Cito as its main clinical platform now fulfils a major strategic aim of the Trust.  Mid Yorks expects that patient information will be found and retrieved more rapidly with Cito, saving up to 30 seconds per patient contact, equalling up to 19,000 saved hours per annum to be redistributed to patient care or other productive tasks.

Patient safety is increased as clinicians can access multiple clinical systems giving a single version of the truth at the point of care, saving time and reducing errors. In outpatient clinics alone, the Trust estimates savings of up to 3,200 hours per annum. As part of the Trust’s paperless agenda, 150 Cito eForms alongside workflow functionality will see a reduction in outpatient scanning, with more than 1.7 million pieces of paper removed or saved.

During the implementation, which involved more than 100 specialties and services across three sites simultaneously moving to full access, clinical user feedback across the Trust was highly positive: the system was praised for its fast performance, intuitive interface and the ability to access multiple clinical systems at any one time while the user was in clinic with the patient. In fact, with minimal training required, clinics and system users were up and running within 30 seconds – despite being one of the busiest days in A&E, the system went live without any adverse impact on patient services.

Civica fully supported the implementation with a team on site for the go-live along with extensive technical support, demonstrating its long-standing commitment to Mid Yorks as a partner.

Paul Curley, Chief Clinical Information Officer at The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust said: “As a major Trust offering acute services to more than half a million people, it was imperative for patient care that the go-live to Cito was as seamless as possible, across all departments. This was enabled, in large part, by the blended team from the Trust and Civica who worked extremely well together.

“By bringing in the Cito platform, we expect to benefit from improved efficiency, productivity and clinical safety. With patient care at the forefront of all we do, Cito will mean a better quality of patient experience alongside stronger outcomes for all our service users. We look forward to continuing to work with Civica in the future.”

David Roots, Executive Director, Health and Care, Civica added: “We’re delighted to support Mid Yorks through such a successful go-live of Cito and are proud to have worked in partnership with the Trust on every step of its digital transformation journey. Cito will enable the Trust to truly deliver better outcomes for patients via increased productivity, reduced delays in care provision and more effective progress through care pathways both now and as the Trust transforms further.”
