Cepsa powers new digital customer experiences

Spanish energy company collaborates with Red Hat to gain greater speed, scalability and efficiency to adapt to changing competitive landscape and customer needs.

Red Hat has been selected by the Spanish energy company Cepsa to underpin its digital transformation strategy, helping it to more rapidly create and deliver digital services that better address changing consumer behaviour and help keep up in an evolving market. Cepsa has built a hybrid cloud-ready platform with Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform supported by Red Hat OpenShift Container Storage and automated with Red Hat Ansible Tower, to enable faster development and launch of new applications.

Cepsa, which operates across the oil and gas value chain, is immersed in a far-reaching digital transformation process spanning all its divisions and businesses, with the aspiration of being an agile, data-driven company. As part of its transformation, Cepsa has chosen Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, the industry’s most comprehensive enterprise Kubernetes platform, to help it more quickly bring ideas to market as new digital experiences for customers. Cepsa’s IT is made up of on-premises, private cloud and multiple public cloud (multicloud) environments. With Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, Cepsa is containerising applications on a standard platform, currently running on-premise and offering more flexibility in scaling across its hybrid cloud infrastructure in the future.

This is a cross-functional project involving several teams, and Cepsa is keen to promote closer collaboration and embrace a DevOps methodology. Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform is designed to unite developers and IT operations while helping accelerate DevOps practices by offering standardised operating environments, configuration as code, self-provisioning, continuous integration and auto-scaling. Cepsa also selected Red Hat OpenShift Container Storage given its integration with and optimization for Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform. Red Hat OpenShift Container Storage is designed to provide persistent storage for OpenShift functions and a more seamless user experience for developers and DevOps to move persistent data with applications between platforms, to the hybrid cloud, or between multiple public clouds.

Cepsa has chosen Red Hat Ansible Tower, an enterprise framework for automating across infrastructure, networks and cloud, to help ready it to more easily extend automation across its hybrid infrastructure as may serve its future needs.  To support the project roll-out, Red Hat is providing technical training for Cepsa staff and helping define a framework for building cloud-native applications, modernising existing applications and managing applications more consistently across its IT estate.
