Precision Micro, a UK-based chemical etching specialist, has secured a contract to produce chemically etched flow plates for use in data centre cooling systems. The seven-figure contract follows several years of investment aimed at increasing production capacity and supporting growing demand for compact, efficient cooling solutions.

Compact plate heat exchangers use chemically etched flow plates to enable efficient heat transfer within a smaller footprint. As traditional heat exchanger technologies can be limited by size or efficiency requirements, these solutions are increasingly used in applications where precision and reliability are critical.

Data centres are a key area of demand, with rising compute requirements driving the need for advanced thermal management systems. The etched plates produced by Precision Micro support the manufacture of compact heat exchangers designed to meet the requirements of increasingly sophisticated cooling applications.

Precision Micro has a long history of producing advanced heat exchanger plates, dating back to the early development of the technology. Recent investment has increased large-sheet processing capacity and expanded etching infrastructure, helping to enable the efficient production of higher material volumes.

The company can produce large-format etched plates measuring up to 1.5 metres in length and 610 mm in width, with material thicknesses of up to 2.5 mm. This allows manufacturers working with larger and thicker plates to benefit from the accuracy, precision, and burr-free finish associated with chemical etching.

Compact heat exchangers have been part of Precision Micro’s capabilities for many years, with recent market growth leading to increased production requirements. This growth has been supported by continued investment in etching facilities, including dedicated chemical processing infrastructure and scalable manufacturing capacity.

Precision Micro supports customers throughout the development process, from prototype production through to volume manufacturing, providing chemically etched components for advanced engineering applications. The company’s ongoing investment in capability and infrastructure enables it to respond to evolving industry requirements.
