Eclipse Power Optimise and Carlton Power have sealed a joint development agreement (JDA) to bring to life the transformative Future Point Manchester in Carrington, Greater Manchester. The energy park project is set to establish one of Europe’s biggest data centres, hugely contributing to the UK's economy and local job market.
Anticipated to unlock £10.7 billion in private investment during its development phase, the energy park will inject over £1.8 billion annually into the UK's economy upon completion. This massive infrastructure project promises to generate over 3,000 data-enabled jobs across northern England, aligning with the government’s strategic AI Growth Zone plans.
At the core of this development is the integration of major low-carbon power production with sizeable energy-consuming entities, all interlinked via a private electricity network. Future Point Manchester boasts a whopping 1.4 gigawatt bilateral grid connection set for energisation by 2028, enabling it to accommodate Europe’s largest data centre. An added 500 megawatts of on-site low-carbon generation will furnish much-needed energy resilience.
The formalisation of the partnership between Eclipse and Carlton Power through the JDA represents a unified commitment to delivering a futuristic energy park. This encompasses designing, building, owning, and operating essential power infrastructure tailor-made for this hyperscale development.
Director Alex Howison from Eclipse Power Optimise noted the pivotal role of hyperscale developments in realising the UK's AI Growth Zone strategy. Howison stated that the collaboration between Carlton and Eclipse ensures the establishment of an energy park equipped to meet national aspirations, thereby attracting leading hyperscale clients.
