Western Digital Corp. says that Acronis, a global leader in cyber protectionhas selected its Ultrastar® Data60 and Ultrastar Data102 high capacity hybrid storage platforms, in order to meet capacity demands and support the business’ long-term expansion plans, efficiently and cost-effectively. Acronis turned to technology partner DIAWAY OÜ to design a scalable architecture that could be deployed across its 14 global data centres and they selected Western Digital.

To keep pace with constantly growing data demands, Acronis needed a cost-efficient storage solution that could deliver rock-solid reliability and data protection, as it adds capacity over time.

Acronis has completed phase one of the planned overhaul, upgrading most of its worldwide storage infrastructure with Western Digital Ultrastar platforms. Its global environment now totals more than 220 petabytes (PB) of capacity, with more to be added. By investing in Western Digital’s Ultrastar platforms, Acronis has reduced its storage acquisition and operational costs, and simplified the management of its vast, global storage footprint. Having a standardized global storage architecture on Western Digital also means capacity planning is much easier and costs are more predictable.

Alex Beyk, director of global technical operations at Acronis said, “As a company, our growth depends on our ability to offer customers efficient and reliable cyber protection solutions at an affordable price. With DIAWAY, we have an integrator that truly understands our needs, and with Western Digital, we’re getting a storage solution that we can trust, with a total cost of ownership that other storage vendors could not match. Standardizing on Ultrastar platforms for our global storage infrastructure was an easy decision to make.”

Ultrastar Data60 and Data102 are high-density, high-capacity 12Gb/s SAS JBODs that can be configured with up to 60 and 102 hard disk drives (HDDs) and up to 24 of those drives configurable to solid-state drives (SSDs) in a compact, 4U form factor, with up to 900TB and 1.5PB raw capacity1. These hybrid storage platforms are extremely dense JBODs which provide the flexibility to specify the HDD and SSD combinations for balancing capacity, performance, and cost. Both are key elements of next-generation disaggregated storage and software-defined storage (SDS) systems.

Due to Western Digital’s unique silicon-to-systems capabilities, Ultrastar Data platforms provide the long-term reliability that Acronis’ customers demand. They include innovative features like IsoVibe™ vibration isolation technology to help maintain consistent performance under heavy workloads, and ArcticFlow™ thermal zone cooling technology, providing an efficient cooling solution that enhances drive reliability.

“We make every effort to provide our customers with great products and services, and we work just as hard to make sure they are selecting the most appropriate solutions to fit their needs,” said Alexander Ragel, managing partner at DIAWAY OÜ. “Western Digital is committed to providing modular and efficient platforms that we use when architecting multi-petabyte style environments for our customers. We believe that Western Digital is a perfect match for Acronis.”

Nigel Edwards, vice president of sales, EMEAI at Western Digital said: “We’re delighted that Acronis has standardised on storage from Western Digital in its data centres. When designing petabyte-scale environments, high-density, reliability and costs are all important factors. We’re committed to supporting Acronis’ data storage needs as it looks to expand its infrastructure around the world and grow its business.”
