Wind River® will be demonstrating its Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) software platform at SDN & OpenFlow World Congress in Dusseldorf, Germany during October 14-17.

The demonstrations include Wind River Titanium Server software that is optimized for and running on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) HP ProLiant servers based on Intel® architecture. Titanium Server enables operators to migrate their network services to NFV architectures while maintaining carrier grade reliability. Customers can onboard and deploy NFV applications out of the box, giving them a time-to-market advantage for commercial NFV deployments.

Titanium Server, previously called Carrier Grade Communications Server in its early-market acceptance phase, is now available for commercial deployment. Titanium Server technologies have been selected for telecom network NFV designs including C-RAN and virtual EPC solutions and is being used in service provider proof-of-concepts (PoCs).

Wind River will be showcasing multiple demonstrations of Titanium Server, including ETSI NFV use cases for high availability in the ETSI Proof-of-Concept Zone. These PoCs will also highlight solutions from partners from the Wind River Titanium Cloud ecosystem, such as Brocade and HP. The Titanium Cloud program provides an ecosystem of optimized, interoperable, standard solutions based around Wind River Titanium Server to accelerate time-to-market for service providers and telecom equipment manufacturers (TEMs) deploying NFV infrastructure.

“As telecom networks move to NFV architectures in order to reduce network operating expenses and accelerate the deployment of new value-added services, maintaining carrier grade reliability is an absolute requirement,” said Charlie Ashton, senior director of business development for networking solutions at Wind River. “Developed by telecom experts and based on proven carrier grade technologies, Wind River Titanium Server is a complete NFV infrastructure solution that can be deployed now.”

“For the telecom industry to evolve and support a hyper-connected world, we as vendors must collaborate to deliver proven, open, and scalable solutions. To support this growing movement known as the New IP, Brocade is working closely with companies like Wind River to deliver best-in-class NFV performance on an open platform,” said Kelly Herrell, vice president and general manager of software networking at Brocade. “The Wind River Titanium Server and Brocade Vyatta vRouter address the industry’s NFV needs by delivering high-performance and interoperable networking services that allow operators to more easily manage their networks’ growing dynamic workloads.”

“Carriers require reliable, ready-to-deploy solutions that can help transform their legacy networks to an NFV- and SDN-enabled infrastructure,” said Werner Schaefer, vice president, Network Functions Virtualization, HP. “By enabling Wind River Titanium Server on HP infrastructure and enabling the HP OpenNFV infrastructure on it, together we will enable carriers to launch new and innovative services quickly to meet new market challenges, while reducing operating and capital costs.”

Titanium Server is an application-ready software platform that enables NFV infrastructure to achieve the carrier grade or six-nines (99.9999%) reliability required for telecom networks. In contrast, platforms using enterprise-class software typically only reach three-nines (99.9%), which can result in extensive network downtime and costly service outage. Titanium Server is based on carrier grade Wind River Linux, performance optimized real-time Virtual Machine (KVM++), carrier grade enhancements to OpenStack®, Intel® Data Plane Development Kit (Intel DPDK), and accelerated vSwitch technologies.
