SafeNet joins the Cloud Industry Forum

Leading data protection and governance vendor becomes the latest name to endorse CIF and its Code of Practice.

SafeNet, a leading provider of data protection solutions, has formally joined the Cloud Industry Forum (CIF), the body established to promote trust, security and transparency within the cloud sector.

The Cloud Industry Forum was established in 2009 to provide transparency through certification to a Code of Practice for credible online Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) and to assist end users in determining the core information necessary to enable them to adopt these services. Membership includes leading players in the cloud-provisioning sector including VMware, Citrix, Interxion, Microsoft and Phoenix.

SafeNet is trusted to provide data protection solutions to the most sensitive data for market-leading organisations around the globe. Their solutions ensure that high value information is secure throughout its lifecycle, providing security from the data centre to the cloud. More than 25,000 customers across 100 countries rely on SafeNet for cloud security, data protection and software licensing.

Jeff Williams, Regional Sales Manager, Cloud Services, at SafeNet, commented: “The cloud industry is in dire need of regulation and standards, but until they are mandated at a governmental level, industry led bodies such as the Cloud Industry Forum play a valuable role in building end user trust in the cloud and regulating the industry.

“This partnership reflects our continued commitment to standards in the cloud and our cloud-based customers. We look forward to working with CIF to assist in the delivery of a credible and certifiable Code of Practice for the cloud industry, with the aim of bringing businesses, consumers and suppliers of cloud services closer together in a trusted and sustainable marketplace,” he continued.

Andy Burton, of the Cloud Industry Forum, added: “Although the cloud has matured rapidly, concerns surrounding data protection and security remain high and are impeding the pace of adoption whilst end users learn how to overcome the fear, uncertainty and doubt (FUD) that surrounds the subject. It is therefore vital that the industry works together to address these concerns professionally. SafeNet’s emphasis on standards and security should serve as a shining example for Cloud Service Providers and we are confident that they will play a valuable role in the future of CIF and the Code of Practice. Our members are made up of the global thought leaders from across the widest spectrum of organisations enabling or delivering cloud services and to that end we look forward to working with SafeNet going forward.”
