Qt Group has made a significant stride in the defence industry with the introduction of Qt for MOSA, a new iteration of its renowned Qt Framework. This revolutionary release has successfully passed the Future Airborne Capability Environment® (FACE®) Certification process. Consequently, user interface (UI) applications developed for ground and aerial defence programs can now leverage the advanced functionality and cost efficiency that Qt has always delivered across sectors.

The FACE Technical Standard, a collaborative initiative between the US and UK government and various industry partners, seeks to streamline the software computing environment for defence systems. Its primary focus is enabling software components to be portable, interoperable, and reusable across diverse platforms and vendors.

The certification positions the Qt Framework as an ideal solution for developing component applications within complex composite systems, such as armoured vehicles and surveillance sensor suites. Notably, its focus is particularly on devices that may not require safety certifications but demand intricate and powerful display capabilities.

The FACE Conformant framework introduces an abstraction layer over the FACE Operating System Segment, permitting defence contractors to efficiently build screen-reliant software for technologies like sensors, drones, and radars. The linked conformance package further includes an exemplary application to guide developers in crafting Qt-based solutions.

Qt has a storied history in augmenting defence UIs, addressing equipment from drone controls to radar and electronic warfare devices. Its comprehensive framework empowers developers to create advanced UIs beyond avionics-specific applications.

The introduction of Qt for MOSA signifies a pivotal moment in defence technology, granting system builders greater flexibility than ever before. This advancement is set to catalyse even more sophisticated and context-rich UI developments in the defence sector.
