Schneider Electric completed an infrastructure upgrade with Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. The work was carried out to support continued availability of critical systems used in patient care.
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust serves more than 500,000 people across Northumberland and North Tyneside. It is supported in estates and capital project delivery by Northumbria Healthcare Facilities Management (NHFM), its subsidiary, which manages infrastructure and related services.
The Trust’s IT environment includes key applications such as electronic patient records and access control systems. Prior to the upgrade, legacy uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems created maintenance and service continuity limitations.
To address this, the Trust implemented EcoStruxure, including Smart-UPS units, network management tools, and EcoStruxure IT Expert across multiple sites. The setup aims to provide consolidated monitoring and operational oversight.
The updated system enables centralised visibility of infrastructure performance and supports maintenance planning and reporting based on system data. It also contributes to energy efficiency management and future upgrade planning.
Following implementation, the Trust reported 100% system uptime and improved visibility across its infrastructure. The system is also being used to support budgeting forecasts for maintenance and planned data centre consolidation across multiple locations.
The Trust intends to continue expanding its use of EcoStruxure solutions under a five-year agreement, focusing on ongoing service improvements and planned consolidation of data centres to support long-term operational needs and patient care delivery.
