Kao Data has announced its participation in Discover Tech, an initiative led by Cisco Systems. The programme is designed to create opportunities for young people from underrepresented backgrounds to explore careers in the technology sector.
In collaboration with organisations including Adobe Inc. and Accenture UK&I, Kao Data is part of a wider group of industry participants contributing to the initiative’s delivery. The programme first ran in February 2026 with 100 students taking part, and reported that 93% of participants indicated increased interest in technology careers afterwards.
In July, Discover Tech is scheduled to expand, delivering a two-day event for 600 young people across London and Manchester. The sessions include practical exposure to areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and cloud computing, delivered in partnership with participating companies.
As part of the programme, Kao Data will host 40 students at its Harlow campus, where they will learn about the infrastructure that supports digital services. The site is also noted for its association with early fibre optic research linked to the work of Sir Charles Kao, a scientist recognised for his contributions to the field of optical communications.
Alongside this initiative, Kao Data also references its Kao Academy programme, which focuses on education and skills development. Discover Tech has an overall aim of engaging 7,000 young people, aligning with broader efforts to increase participation in the technology sector.
