Neterra has launched a fourth independent data transmission route between Sofia and Frankfurt. The route adds to the company’s existing geographically diverse paths and is supported by its global internet exchange platform, NetIX.

The decision to build the route follows an analysis of network disruptions affecting international data infrastructure since September 2025. According to the company, these incidents have at times resulted in simultaneous outages across multiple routes, impacting global content platforms.

Neterra states that three routes were not always sufficient to maintain its target service levels. The fourth route has been implemented as an additional pathway, with a separate physical route and differences in operators and equipment used, to provide further redundancy for customers using its data transmission, internet access, and NetIX services.

The infrastructure supports several hundred customers in the region. NetIX capacity has expanded to around 7Tbps, and Neterra is planning a further upgrade of the Sofia–Frankfurt network.

The planned upgrade will move from N × 100 Gbps to N × 400 Gbps across all four routes before the end of the year.

These developments increase overall transmission capacity and route diversity on the Sofia–Frankfurt corridor.
