Vertiv has introduced the Avocent MergePoint Unity 2, a KVM switch platform designed for the secure and centralised management of IT devices across enterprise data centres, distributed edge sites and branch office locations.

The Avocent MergePoint Unity 2 is intended to support IT operations by helping to streamline management processes, improve response times and maintain system availability. It enables secure remote diagnosis, configuration and recovery, with protections designed to guard against unauthorised firmware and software changes.

As workloads become more distributed across multiple locations, infrastructure management can increase in complexity. The platform provides a centralised control point with enterprise-level security to support visibility and remote management across geographically dispersed environments.

It complies with FIPS 140-3 cryptographic standards and includes security features such as smart card credentials and Common Access Card (CAC) authentication to support user access controls. These capabilities are designed to consolidate infrastructure visibility without requiring multiple tools or physical site access.

The system also includes Virtual Media functionality, allowing remote mounting of drives for software and application installation. It supports remote access to UEFI and BIOS firmware interfaces for system updates and hardware troubleshooting.

Access is available through a browser-based interface for both local and remote users, while local hotkey support enables task execution at the rack level.

The KVM switch is designed with a compact form factor and, when used with the Avocent Local Rack Access Console, occupies a single rack unit. It supports standalone management through an internal web interface and can also be integrated with the Avocent MP1000 Management Platform for broader enterprise administration.
