AI adoption challenges: navigating the trust paradox

Informatica's new study reveals the trust paradox of AI: rapid adoption yet high risks due to lack of data literacy and governance. Solutions involve investment and upskilling.

Informatica from Salesforce has released research titled "CDO Insights 2026: Data Governance and the Trust Paradox of Data and AI Literacy Take Centre Stage." The study examines organisations’ increasing adoption of AI alongside challenges related to data readiness and literacy.

The research surveyed 600 data leaders globally and found that nearly eight in ten European firms plan to adopt generative AI by 2026. In the UK, 61% of businesses intend to transition to agentic enterprises, indicating a slightly slower pace.

AI adoption is largely driven by goals such as improving decision-making, enhancing employee collaboration, and optimising customer experience. The study also identifies a “trust paradox”: while most data leaders believe employees generally trust AI-driven data, 96% highlight the need for additional workforce training in data and AI literacy.

The report also highlights concerns about advancing AI pilots despite data reliability challenges. More than half of European organisations identify data quality as a primary barrier to moving AI agents into production and are responding with investments in technology and staff development.

Amanda Fitzsimmons, Senior Director of Customer Data at RS Group, noted that governance, accountability, and upskilling are key factors for successful AI adoption. She also emphasised the value of collaboration with partners like Informatica in supporting responsible and effective AI strategies.
