Vantage Data Centers, a renowned provider of hyperscale data centre campuses, has successfully finalized a substantial $1.6 billion equity investment to boost its Asia-Pacific (APAC) platform. This venture was spearheaded by an affiliate of GIC, a global institutional investor, alongside a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA).

With part of this capital, Vantage has acquired Yondr Group’s extensive hyperscale data centre campus in Sedenak Tech Park, Johor, Malaysia. Announced earlier in September, this acquisition signifies a powerful expansion, taking Vantage’s regional footprint to an impressive 1GW of operational and planned IT capacity. This covers strategic hubs such as Australia, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

The inclusion of the Johor campus represents Vantage’s third site in Malaysia, enhancing its service reach to crucial APAC markets like Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand. According to Jeremy Deutsch, president of Vantage Data Centers, APAC, this development is pivotal to their growth strategy in the region, facilitating scalable and sustainable infrastructure solutions for AI and cloud customers.

Encompassing nearly 73 acres, the Johor campus, known as JHB1, promises to provide over 300MW of IT capacity across its three data centres upon full development. Situated within the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, the campus boasts strategic connectivity via dark fibre routes, linking to vital regional hubs. Originally financed through a green loan, JHB1 incorporates sustainability-focused technologies such as direct-to-chip liquid cooling and is on track for EDGE certification.

With the acquisition, Vantage welcomes more than 30 team members from Yondr APAC, enhancing their operational capabilities as they strive to support customers in key locations.
