Inspired, the UK's leading commercial energy and sustainability advisory firm, has clinched a historic tri-party corporate power purchase agreement (CPPA) with VIRTUS Data Centres and Lynn and Inner Dowsing (LID) windfarms. This marks a significant milestone in advancing VIRTUS Data Centres' sustainability objectives.
As part of the agreement, VIRTUS has subscribed to a power purchase agreement amounting to 31MW, equivalent to 16% of the total output from LID offshore windfarms. This arrangement commences on 1st October 2025, ensuring a consistent supply of renewable energy.
A CPPA is a long-term energy contract between a corporate entity and a renewable energy generator. These agreements are gaining favour as they allow businesses to achieve net-zero targets with up to 100% renewable power. The energy can be traced back to a specific project, like wind or solar farms, assures a greener, sustainable operation.
Inspired has been instrumental as VIRTUS' energy consultant, enabling the successful embarking on this new sustainable journey. Their partnership ensures that VIRTUS continues to harness renewable power directly for its data centres.
Helen Kinsman, SVP Commercial and Regulatory Affairs at VIRTUS, said: “As an energy intensive user, we know it’s our responsibility to minimise the environmental impact from all our data centre facilities. Hence, since... 2011, we have been procuring power from 100% renewable sources."
The renewable power will be sourced from Lynn and Inner Dowsing (LID) offshore windfarms, managed by funds from Macquarie Asset Management, and backed by XceCo Ltd, a specialist in managing renewable energy projects.
Bailey Bradley, Managing Director of XceCo, praises the collaborative efforts that brought this CPPA to fruition, underscoring the synergy generated from a shared vision and commitment.
In addition to this landmark agreement, Inspired provides a suite of services to VIRTUS, perpetually enhancing their role as a dedicated energy consultant.
