Start Campus, one of Europe’s largest and most sustainable data centre projects, has announced two strategic appointments to its senior leadership team. Omer Wilson joins as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) and José Luis Arnau as Head of Sales, to accelerate the company’s go-to-market strategy and drive its next phase of growth, as it prepares to break ground on the campus’ second building following the successful operational launch of its first facility.
The SINES DC, Start Campus’s flagship development in Portugal with 1.2 GW IT grid access fully secured, is set to redefine industry standards. The development will harness an ocean-water cooling system to deliver one of the most sustainable and power-efficient data centres in Europe. The project is expected to contribute €1.2 billion annually to Portugal’s economy and create thousands of jobs, helping the country become a core catalyst of Europe’s digital transformation.
The appointments of Omer Wilson to the board and José Luis Arnau to the executive leadership teams are instrumental in further strengthening the vision for Start Campus’ ambitions.
“The additions of Omer and José to our team will accelerate our ability to deliver a world-class, AI-ready, and sustainable data centre environment for our customers. Both these highly experienced executives will help us deliver the best possible products for our customers, from turnkey to bespoke solutions, making SINES DC Europe’s premier data centre campus,” said Robert Dunn, CEO of Start Campus.
Wilson brings over 25 years of experience in technology and data centre industries, most recently serving as CMO at Qarbon Technologies, following leadership roles at Digital Realty and Pure Data Centres Group. Arnau joins with more than 30 years of international business experience, most recently as Sales Director at Digital Realty, where he led negotiations with major telecommunications providers, hyperscalers, and enterprise clients.
“I am thrilled to join Start Campus as Chief Marketing Officer at such a transformative time for the digital infrastructure industry,” said Omer Wilson, CMO, Start Campus. “Portugal is rapidly becoming the ‘digital gateway’ to Europe. It is positioned to become a global hub for sustainable data centres, with its strategic location, robust connectivity through subsea cables, and leadership in renewable energy. The SINES DC is a prime example of innovation and sustainability coming together to set new benchmarks for the industry.”
“Start Campus represents the perfect combination of strategic location, sustainability, and customer-focused solutions,” said José Luis Arnau, Head of Sales, Start Campus. “The chance to be part of Europe’s largest data centre campus project and work with a vibrant international team to develop this groundbreaking initiative is a captivating opportunity.”
