CTD Tiles builds for the future with BML Digital

Business transformation specialist delivers digital roadmap for newly divested distributor.

Business transformation specialist BML Digital has been appointed to deliver comprehensive IT transition and digital business leadership to CTD Tiles Ltd, a leading distributor of indoor and exterior decorative tiles in the UK.  This follows the divestment of CTD by Saint-Gobain and the subsequent purchase of CTD by Aurelius.

CTD specialises in sourcing and supplying a vast range of tile designs to all sectors of the interior and architectural market. With a turnover in excess of £100m, nearly 90 locations throughout the UK and over 50 years of experience, CTD is one of the leading names in the industry.

As part of an immediate, transition phase, BML Digital has executed a full Digital Maturity Assessment of CTD.  This has already revealed exposure to risk and BML Digital has established a practical technology roadmap to mitigate these risks and position CTD to operate and scale rapidly. This has included the development of a new IT infrastructure, policy and management best practices that will identify and meet the immediate need to ensure ongoing customer service levels.

BML Digital will manage the programme to transition smoothly all IT from Saint Gobain to a new, independent CTD.  BML Digital has consulted on the appointment of new managed services providers, as well as recruiting technology leadership throughout the divestment transition and first year of independent operation.  This will deliver new, fit for purpose and improved technology, including extended ecommerce capabilities.

Beyond this, a second, transformational phase is set to begin in 2023 with BML Digital advising on the implementation of the roadmap to develop a range of additional capabilities throughout the CTD business.

“The last two years have seen significant growth in the tiling market in the UK,” said Mike Dent, Managing Director, CTD.  “As such, divestment represents a huge opportunity for CTD, as we look to capitalise on the growing market.  But we recognise that we need a technology infrastructure and strategy that will enable us to maximise this opportunity. BML Digital is a trusted partner to help us deliver this throughout 2022 and beyond.”

“When any business leaves the mothership of a previous owner, it faces some key questions around its use of technology,” said Ben Johnson, founder and CEO of BML Digital.  “It is no longer enough for the technology to simply enable operation – it must now provide competitive advantage to drive growth.  To do this, the newly divested business must be pragmatic.  It needs to know exactly what it does and does not have, what it needs and how to span the gap. This is what we are providing to CTD, and we are excited to be a partner for them as they take this next step in their evolution.”
