Proact implements cloud-ready hyper converged solution at Norges Geotekniske Institutt

Leading data centre and cloud provider Proact is set to transform Norges Geotekniske Institutt’s (NGI) IT infrastructure with an innovative, hyper converged solution. The platform, designed and implemented by Proact, will ensure high availability for the research centre, while also simplifying data centre operations.

NGI is Norway’s largest geotechnical specialist community and a leading centre of research and consultancy in engineering geosciences. The organisation required a trusted partner as its data centre was equipped with various vendor technologies that had different life cycles. To simplify day-to-day administrative tasks and to streamline investment processes, NGI wanted to consolidate its existing architecture while also enabling automation and cloud adoption in the future.

Following workshops with pre-sales consultants, Proact created a bespoke design which aligned perfectly with NGI’s needs. Proact devised a plan based on next generation technology, which could be sourced from a single vendor, in addition to consultancy and support from Proact’s experts to maintain peak performance. After being presented with various options, NGI chose Proact as a strategic partner based on a combination of experience, knowledge and the vast-ranging capabilities of the proposed solution.

The hyper converged system is based on software-defined storage with VMware vSAN and vSAN-ready nodes from Dell EMC. The new solution will make it easy to integrate cloud services, a function that fits well with the next phase of NGI’s IT strategy as it looks to adopt a hybrid service model. This enterprise-class solution will support NGI's central IT environment.
Leif Andreas S?lsn?s, IT Manager at NGI, says: “We chose Proact because of its expertise and experience with the latest technologies, as well as the ongoing management of the solution. With this new platform from Proact, NGI has modernised its primary IT environment.”

Eirik Pedersen, Managing Director at Proact in Norway, says: “As a customer-centric organisation, we always design infrastructure solutions that are a best-fit for the company we’re working with. In this case we acknowledged NGI’s need for a cost-effective platform that makes it much easier to launch new services, and have transformed the data centre with a bespoke hyper converged system.

“We look forward to developing our partnership with NGI, a company that truly embraces the need for innovation, and hope we can work together on more IT transformation projects in the future.”
