Colt Data Centre Services adds 2,000 sqm of new capacity in London

Capacity added to serve London’s growing needs as a global technology hub.

Colt Data Centre Services has completed four new data halls in its flagship London 3 data centre. The expansion responds to soaring demand from customers for its cloud hosting and colocation services in the London marketplace. The addition of 2,000 sqm of new colocation space adds an extra 6.4 MW of IT capacity to the existing 12 MW currently offered by the facility.

Built using Colt Data Centre Services’ innovative design and delivery techniques, the facility now boasts a total of seventeen data halls in total, with an additional two halls already under construction to further expand its capacity this year.

Colt Data Centre Services’ London 3 data centre is a state-of-the-art, carrier neutral facility and the company’s largest site in London. All Colt Data Centre Services London sites have direct connectivity between them and are also connected to 530 + third party data centres globally. This latest expansion represents a 53% increase in IT capacity offered at the facility.

The London 3 data centre, which has been awarded the Uptime Institute’s Management & Operations Stamp of Approval, now provides a total power provision of 18.4 MW. The design methodology uses a distributed cooling system which has enabled the facility to achieve an industry leading PUE of 1.15. Other design efficiencies include a method of hot aisle containment which allows for higher power densities of 8kW delivered to each customer rack.

This additional 2,000 sqm of space was delivered in under six months from design to delivery, a further 1,000 sqm of space is currently under construction and is due to be delivered in June 2017. This will see the site grow to an impressive 11,000 sqm overall.

Detlef Spang, EVP Data Centre Services at Colt, commented: “The expansion of our London 3 data centre facility is testament to the exploding demand for flexible data centre space from the capital, a flourishing global technology hub. Customers are seeking reliable, cost-effective and scalable data centre solutions which complement their hybrid IT strategies. Colt Data Centre Services is focused on being the most trusted and customer-centric data centre provider – we’re committed to investing and expanding to meet our customers’ growing requirements.”
