DataCentred has become a member of the LINUX foundation, the global non-profit organisation dedicated to fostering the growth of LINUX and collaborative software development.

The membership is a demonstration of DataCentred’s long-term commitment to the collaborative development of open source cloud technologies and will enable the company to further develop its core competency and services.

DataCentred is a leading provider of next-generation data centre and open-source cloud computing services focusing on clients with big research data sets and large storage requirements. The UK-based company combines co-location with powerful computer processing, advanced storage solutions and excellent network connectivity. By leveraging open source instead of proprietary software and architectures, DataCentred offers its customers low cost solutions with data portability and flexibility as a key feature. DataCentred is a gold sponsor at next week's CloudOpen Europe event.

Founded in 2000, the LINUX Foundation sponsors the work of Linux creator Linus Torvalds and promotes, protects and advances the Linux operating system and collaborative software development by marshalling the resources of its members and the open source community. The Linux Foundation provides a neutral forum for collaboration and education by hosting Collaborative Projects, Linux conferences, including LinuxCon, and generating original research and content that advances the understanding of Linux and collaborative software development.

The relationship with LINUX follows DataCentred’s recent corporate sponsorship of the OpenStack Foundation, which promotes the development, distribution and adoption of the OpenStack cloud operating system. As the foundation of open public and private cloud offerings, OpenStack enables DataCentred to develop products and services to meet the specific and rapidly evolving cloud computing and data storage requirements of businesses today.

LINUX have also announced further memberships: Altera, which provides programmable solutions and power management technologies. Chelsio Communications offer convergence of networking, storage and clustering interconnects. Imagination Technologies’ silicon intellectual property powers mobile, consumer and embedded electronics. Travelping delivers products and services to enable customers to take full advantage of the benefits of next-generation networking.
