Akamai appoints Doug Tilford as Senior Vice President and General Manager, EMEA

Veteran and transformative sales leader at Akamai, Tilford to focus on Company's next wave of growth across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Akamai Technologies, Inc. Has announced the appointment of Doug Tilford as Senior Vice President and General Manager, EMEA. Based in London, Mr. Tilford will be responsible for driving sales, customer satisfaction, market expansion, and partner and business development across Akamai’s rapidly-expanding EMEA region. He will report to Robert Hughes, Akamai’s President of Worldwide Operations.

A 14-year veteran of Akamai, Mr. Tilford has held a number of management positions, most recently leading Akamai’s largest sales division as Vice President of Enterprise Sales. In that role, he managed a 50 percent increase in customer acquisition while expanding into new vertical markets and leading a two-fold expansion of Akamai’s sales force in the Americas. He has led Akamai’s security solutions sales, doubling security revenues year over year. In addition, he has managed the global sales integration of many of Akamai’s largest acquisitions.

“Doug is a proven, global leader and will be instrumental in scaling our EMEA operations,” said Hughes. “Throughout his tenure at Akamai, Doug has continually demonstrated his ability to drive business growth, develop his team, expand his routes to market, and to always put the interests of our customers and employees first. I am confident that Doug, working closely with the rest of the management team across EMEA, will lead Akamai to even greater success in this important region.”

Akamai continues to expand its operations in EMEA to include 15 offices, a world-class services center in Krakow, and a state-of-the-art customer center in London.
“EMEA has always been a region of success for Akamai, and I’m thrilled to be joining an established and talented team to help it scale to new levels,” said Tilford. “Looking ahead, I see significant opportunity in our existing markets as the economies across EMEA continue to rebound. I look forward to working closely with our customers in these regions as they adopt strategies across the areas of cloud, mobile, security, and media.”

Prior to joining Akamai, Mr. Tilford helped to create the news distribution firm Internet Wire (now Marketwired), leading sales and marketing for the Sequoia Capital and Hummer Winblad-funded start-up. He also served eight years at Xerox Corporation in sales and sales management.
